Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

13 years after the dreaded Street Fighter Live Action Movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, a new movie named Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li has been announced in year 2007 and it is slated for released in 2009. Now let us check the actors who will be portraying the great fighting game characters, shall we?

Like the title suggests, this movie lead character is Chun Li and Kristin Kreuk of Smallville fame will be taking this role. It is quite a good choice since Kristin Kreuk has the Pan Asian look but the only problem I could think of is can Kristin pull out the actions needed in this very action packed movie? And I cant wait to see 2 trademark buns in her hair.

Next, let's have a look at the one who will carry the role of the bad guy who always dons a mask equipped with claws on both his hands, Vega. Haha, you wont guess it right. It is Taboo from Black Eyed Peas. I am wary of this choice as the only similarity that I can see between Taboo and Vega is they both sport a long hair. Other than that, I guess we just have to wait until the movie to release then only we can start to judge.

The cast roaster also includes many familiar Asian faces(at least familiar to me since I like Hong Kong movies and Singapore dramas a lot) like Cheng Pei Pei who acted in Crouching Tiger Hidden Tiger, Josie Ho and Edmund Chen.

Do note that since Street Fighter universe has lots of different characters and cramming them all in one movie practically spells doom to the movie like the infamous Street Fighter Live Action Movie, many characters wont appear in this movie and yeah, Ryu and Ken are practically out of this movie. However, if this movie manages to attract bees like honey does, we might be able to see sequels with different characters as the lead characters.

When do you think we can see this movie? My guess is we might see this movie around the time Street Fighter IV is released, or vice versa.

For more info regarding this movie, please check the official blog which will be updated weekly.
